The Health and Safety Regulations 1996 outline workplace regulations around hazard warning sign usage. To maximise safety, hazard warning signs must be:

- Related to an in-work safety policy and risk assessment
- For a specific hazard
Under the 1996 Regulations, employers must supply hazard warning signs if needed. Without them, a risk assessment isn’t considered complete, which leaves employers liable.
