We at Label Source consider ourselves the asset label specialists. Not only do we sell a huge variety of asset tags and barcode labels, we also pride ourselves on being able to answer practically any question a customer might have about asset labelling and the products required to do it.

Here are a few of the most common queries:

Q: What are asset labels?

A: Asset labels are numbered tags that company owners can use to keep track of their assets. Each asset label has its own unique number, making it easy to identify and monitor the labelled items.

Q: Why do people use asset labels?

A: Asset labels are useful in a number of different ways. By making assets individually identifiable, they speed up stock/inventory control and deter thieves. Asset labels are particularly well-suited to moveable assets (e.g. computers, laptops, tools), especially if said assets are frequently taken off the premises and into the field.

Q: Can I have my company's logo on my asset labels?

A: Absolutely! We offer a variety of customisation options to complement our standard asset labelling range - many of our clients have found that the inclusion of a logo helps to improve brand awareness and improve the identifiability of marked items.

Q: What are asset labels made of?

A: Asset labels come in many different materials, each with its own properties. Most of the asset tags we supply here at Label Source are made of self-adhesive vinyl, but we also offer foil asset labels, which have a wider operating temperature range. You may also wish to invest in destructible or tamper-evident asset labels; these tags come with additional security features to prevent them from being cleanly removed by thieves.

Asset labels

If you're not wholly familiar with the wide world of asset tagging, you may be surprised to see just how many different types of asset label there are. Asset marking isn't a one-size-fits-all industry; as an asset label supplier, we at Label Source have to be extremely flexible in the range that we offer.

For example...

High-security asset labels

Destructible asset labels

Many of our clients request an asset labelling solution that will make it difficult for would-be thieves to remove the asset labels from the goods to which they're affixed. We have two different options for these customers: destructible asset labels, which frament on attempted removal (see image above), and tamper-evident asset labels, which leave behind a permanent pattern when removed. Both types of label make it nigh-impossible to completely eliminate the evidence of theft.

Two-part asset tags

Many business owners need two copies of each asset label: one label for the assets themselves, and a corresponding label for their records. Our dual asset labels were designed with these people in mind - each one is made up of two detachable parts, each bearing the same information.

Extra-large asset labels

There are numerous reasons why someone might need jumbo-sized asset labels for their goods and products. Their increased size makes them easily visible from greater distances, which is ideal for a crowded warehouse, but these asset labels are also ideal for large-scale assets such as plant machinery and heavy-duty factory equipment.

All of this is just the tip of the iceberg - we have a huge range of asset labels to choose from, allowing us to meet almost any set of requirements. Click here to view our full range, or use our Asset Tag Builder to create customised asset labels of your own!

Our ever popular range of plastic tags is in the process of being extended. Six extra colours are being introduced on our more popular sizes, namely purple, grey, dark blue, light green, light brown and pink. Also, there is a new size being added to the range, a 50mm x 80mm version.

All these thermoplastic polymer tags are available in 0.5mm thickness polypropylene. Despite being light in weight, the tags are abrasion, chemical and high impact resistant. Other properties include a resistance to cracking and low moisture absorption, the latter offering resistance to bacterial infection (particularly suitable in food processing or healthcare applications).

These plain, vibrant coloured tags are supplied in several rectangular and circular sizes, in packs of 500 tags. Other sizes can be produced, as well as tags with printed with customer specific information. Destructible labels

One of the main reasons for labelling one's property with asset tags is to minimise the likelihood of loss and theft.  Many asset tags are branded with that company's name and logo; here's one that we made for a lawn care company:

Branded asset tag

Not only does the above label feature the company's name and imagery, it also lists the unique model and warranty numbers of the item in question. This means that the labelled item is instantly identifiable - if it were to go missing, the company would be able to establish exactly which of their assets had disappeared, and if found, they would be able to confirm their ownership of the item thanks to the branded, numbered asset tag.

But what if somebdoy were to remove the tag? This is a common problem, especially when it comes to valuable electronic equipment; thieves will peel off asset labels to avoid detection and to sell the item on without provoking suspicion. With the asset tag gone, it will be much harder to identify the missing/stolen equipment as your own, and it may well be impossible to prove your ownership of it.

That is where destructible and tamper evident labels come in. These high-security tagging products are designed to prevent removal and tampering, thereby ensuring that your assets remain uniquely identifiable no matter what happens.

  • Tamper evident asset tags consist of two parts. The two parts of the label cannot be removed intact, and any attempt to restore the label after attempted removal will be easily spotted, as the two parts cannot be re-attached. When a tamper evident label is removed, it leaves behind a permanent printed pattern to show that the tag has been taken off.

  • Destructible asset labels are slightly simpler. They are designed to fragment (tear) upon attempted removal, making it practically impossible to remove the tags cleanly.

If you are serious about protecting your equipment, these high-security tagging options could well be the best possible solution. Contact Label Source for further details, or click here to see our full range of asset tags and labels.

Asset tags have many different uses in many different settings. Here at Label Source, we aim to provide the perfect asset marking solution for each and every customer, and so our asset tags and labels come in a wide variety of different materials and designs.

But which asset tag is right for you? With so many options to choose from, it's easy to feel a little uncertain when you're trying to implement an asset tagging system. There are lots of decisions to make; for example, would you like your labels to be made of vinyl, foil, or polyester? Do you need your tags to be tamper-evident for security purposes? And what colour would you like the labels to be?

To help you through this potentially mind-boggling process, we at Label Source have put together a handy guide to the different types of asset tag we offer. If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to give us a call on 0800 3761 693 (UK enquiries) or 0044 1443 842769 (international customers).

PVC Asset Labels

PVC is a type of self-adhesive vinyl with great durability. These labels are waterproof, chemical-resistant, and able to withstand temperatures between -30 and +90 degrees Celsius. They come with a permanent adhesive that will work perfectly on most smooth, flat surfaces, and they are abrasion- and rub-resistant, so they should last for a very long time.

Polyester Asset Tags

These labels are similar to the PVC labels described above, but their operating temperature range is somewhat larger; our polyester tags can withstand any temperature between -40 and +120 degrees Celsius.

 Foil Asset Labels

Our foil labels have all of the properties listed above. Additionally, they are oil-resistant and have an even larger temperature range (-40 to +150 degrees Celsius) than our polyester labels.

 Destructible Asset Labels

Want to make sure that your labels aren't removed? These destructible labels will fragment (tear) upon attempted removal, which means that they cannot be removed cleanly.

 Tamper-Evident Labels

Another high-security option; these labels can't be removed intact, and they will leave behind a printed pattern if peeled away.

These are just some of the asset tagging options available from Label Source. We also sell cable wrap labels, jumbo-sized tags, dual labels, and more.
